Essential in the high-resolution flood and hazard mapping efforts of the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program is the accurate processing of the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data in software like the LAStools.
Knowing the importance of such application programs, the DREAM Program hosted a LAStools tutorial last May 28, 2013 at the Audio-visual room of the National Engineering Center, University of the Philippines Diliman.
The whole-day workshop was a follow-up activity of the LiDAR Applications event held last March 15, 2013. It was facilitated by the developer of LAStools himself, Martin Isenburg, PhD. Among the 47 participants of the workshop were professors, government personnel, and private individuals.
Dr. Isenburg gave the participants an overview of the DREAM Program, the LiDAR technology, and the LAStools program. He guided the audience from the installation to a sample processing of LiDAR data.
The workshop was graced by Dr. Gay Jane Perez, President of the Philippine Remote Sensing Society. Program Leader Dr. Enrico C. Paringit gave the closing remarks with hopeful insights on the future of LiDAR technology usage in the Philippines.
