DREAM Program joins 2016 DOST Region XII Science Nation Tour and Exhibits

The UP Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program participated the 2016 Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XII Science Nation Tour and Exhibits – South Central Mindanao held on February 15 to 19, 2016 at the KCC Convention Center, General Santos City. 

 

Around 1000 people attended the conferences and exhibits held at the Convention Center, 400 of which dropped by the booth setup for UP DREAM Program for the duration of the event. Visitors were from different National Government Agencies (NGAs), the Academe, Local Government Units (LGUs), Non-government Organizations (NGOs), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and students from various public and private schools. The UP DREAM staff managed the program’s booth, interacted with the visitors, and responded to their curious inquiries about the program and the state-of-art Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology.

 

Simultaneous with the education fair were symposia on strengthening the region’s resilience to the impacts of climate change, youth science and technology, and Halal standards and certification. Dr, Enrico Paringit, UP DREAM/PHIL-LiDAR 1 Program’s Program Leader, contributed to the conference by delivering a 20-minute talk on the Nationwide LIDAR and Flood Mapping Program on February 16, held at the KCC Convention Center. He also mentioned the participation specifically of Mindanao universities and colleges in the program. In the evening of February 16 was a Gala Dinner to welcome the guest from different DOST agencies and projects and local government personnel for coming in Mindanao and participating in the Science Nation Tour and Exhibits.

 

This is the first of the Information, Education, and Communication Campaigns (IECCs) launched by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) this year. The highlights of this Cluster Fair and Exhibits was held at the KCC Convention Center where UP DREAM Program was designated with an expo booth to showcase the program’s objectives and outputs.#
