UP DREAM Program Shares LiDAR Data Distribution System in FOSS4G 2015

The UP Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM)/PHIL-LiDAR 1 participated in the Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Conference (FOSS4G) last September 14 – 19, 2015 in Seoul, South Korea.  Representative Ken Abryl Eleazar Salanio of the Data Archiving and Distribution Component (DAD) talked about the development of the archiving system for the program's LiDAR data and LiDAR-derived datasets in his presentation entitled “Data Archiving and Distribution System for the Philippines' LiDAR Program Using Object Storage Systems” to delegates from around 48 attending countries.

 

As an integral part to the Hazard Mapping of the Philippines using LiDAR data, the DAD component is responsible for the distribution of LiDAR and LiDAR derived datasets to partner State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country, and other stakeholders; development of a LiDAR database and distribution system; enhancement of the data archiving skills of SUC personnel to ensure the proper management and distribution of LiDAR data.

 

FOSS4G is an global conference held annually by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. “FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and businessmen from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions and code sprint, FOSS4G participants create effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, human networks and business opportunities (2015.foss4g.org/about/about-FOSS4G/).”
