DREAM showcases Flood Hazard Maps in Senate Exhibit

DREAM brings its flood hazard maps of critical river basins to the Senate of the Philippines in a 2-day exhibit (May 7-8, 2014) at the Senate Office in Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City. Included were the 100-year rain return flood hazard maps from the Flood Modelling Component, meaning that statistically, the flood scenario will occur at least once in 100 years.

DREAM holds Hydrology Training for Personnel

Last April 4, 2014, the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program organized a hydrology training attended by 20 of its personnel mostly from the Flood Modeling Component. The training was facilitated by flood modeling expert Dr. Matt Horritt from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

The Flood Modeling Component (FMC) of the DREAM Program, which uses processed LiDAR data for flood modeling, has announced that as of February 17, 2014, it has accomplished accurate and highly-relevant flood hazard maps for 13 river basin areas.

Last January 14, 2014, four notable institutions, UP DREAM, DOST Project NOAH, OCD Project DINA, and DPWH joined together to hold an Information Education Communication (IEC) Seminar in the Multi-Purpose Hall on the 5th Floor of the DPWH Main Office in the Port Area of Metro Manila.

DREAM holds follow-up Quantum GIS Seminar for LGUs

Just before 2013 drew to a close, the University of the Philippines Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (UP DREAM) Program managed to add yet another activity to its already full 2013 calendar. After the giving out LiDAR data to LGUs and holding a LASTools tutorial, this time, a Quantum GIS Seminar for LGU representatives was conducted at the National Engineering Center (NEC) Auditorium last December 23, 2013.

DREAM gives aid to Yolanda victims

In light of the recent devastation brought about by Super Typhoon Yolanda, the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program has worked together with Project Lightline of the National Institute of Physics to donate portable cellphone chargers with batteries to the disaster-stricken province of Leyte. With these chargers, Yolanda victims will be able to use their phones to communicate with their relatives in Manila or elsewhere, despite the absence of electricity in most parts of typhoon-hit Leyte.

DREAM reports progress, hands out LiDAR data

Less than two years after its launch, the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program has already readied processed Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data for over 80 municipalities. These were handed out in the Report to Stakeholders event held last October 17, 2013 at the National Engineering Center Audio-Visual Room.
