DREAM lands in Tuguegarao for North Luzon NSTW

Last September 2-4, 2014, DREAM brought itself a step closer to the students and teachers in Region I, II, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) as it displayed its eye-catching exhibit in the Cagayan State University (CSU) campus, complete with a 3D scale model rendition of LiDAR equipment gathering data, videos showing the public how DREAM operates, and most of all, relaying its achievements and contributions to disaster risk reduction and nation-building.

After the ingress on September 1, the regional NSTW officially began on September 2 with a motorcade in Carig Sur and Tuguegarao City Town Proper. This was followed by opening ceremonies, the opening of the exhibits in the CSU Red Eagle Gymnasium, then the blessing and inauguration of the Food Innovation Center (FIC). Afterwards, a press conference allowed the media to ask questions and gain the insights of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officials and other local government officials gracing the event. The viewing of the Science and Technology (S&T) exhibits began shortly thereafter, as students and teachers on their field trips, representatives from the business sector, and the general public visited the interactive S&T booths and received Information Education Campaign (IEC) materials from the different organizations and institutions represented in the exhibit.

Among the highlights of the North Luzon NSTW was the Science and Technology Quiz held for the elementary and high school levels, IEC campaign on Environmental Management Techniques for the Rehabilitation of Rivers and Creeks, media seminar-workshop reporting hydrometeorological hazards, seminar on intellectual property, and IEC on the Balik-Scientist Program.

During the closing and awarding ceremonies, the breakthroughs and efforts of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) such as the Batanes State University and Isabela State University, among others, were recognized. The exhibits which had the most sales of their products and had the best booth design were also awarded. DREAM, together with the other exhibits, received a certificate of appreciation from DOST for its booth and efforts in the said event. The egress was on September 5, 2014.
