Phil-LiDAR Program holds DOST-Attached Agencies LiDAR Seminar

More than 100 Regional Directors (RDs) and Provincial Directors (PDs) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) attended the DOST-Attached Agencies LiDAR Seminar held last April 14, 2015 in the Audio-Visual Room (AVR) of the National Engineering Center (NEC) in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, in Quezon City. Information on the hazard-mapping and resource assessment functions and outputs of the Phil-LiDAR Program will help the regional and provincial offices to perform their roles in disaster risk reduction and management with a higher capacity using high-quality data.

Phil-LiDAR Programs hold LiDAR Data Processing Forum

The Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program, also known as the Phil-LiDAR 1 Program, together with the Phil-LiDAR 2 Program representatives, met with its partners State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the LiDAR Processing Forum held on March 30, 2015 in the Audio-Visual Room (AVR) of the National Engineering Center (NEC) in the University of the Philippines, Diliman (UPD), Quezon City.

Chikka backs Python training for Phil-LiDAR 1 personnel

With the Python-programmed automated Water Level Forecast Sensors (WLFS) necessary to the fulfillment of the Phil-LiDAR 1 Program's mandate, a Python Programming Language training was conducted for Flood Modelling Component (FMC) personnel, as well as other representatives from the Data Validation Component (DVC), Data Processing Component (DPC), Data Archiving and Distribution Component (DAD), together with students from the SMART Visayas Project last March 18, 19, 20, 23, and 24, 2015. The 5-day training was conducted by Chikka Technical Training Analyst Rodolfo Duldulao, as part of Chikka's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

UPLB Forestry Students participate in Phil-LiDAR 1 IEC

As part of their Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) class, BS Forestry students from the University of the Philippines, Los Banos participated in an Information Education Campaign (IEC) activity in the Phil-LiDAR 1 Office in UP Diliman last March 23, 2015, to increase their awareness of LiDAR GIS Technology in the Philippines.

Japan Environmental Forum 2015 Delegates tour Phil-LiDAR 1 Office

On March 3, 2015, 14 participants to the 2015 Japan Environmental Forum toured the Phil-LiDAR 1 Program office. Program Leader Dr. Enrico C. Paringit introduced Phil-LiDAR 1 to the delegates from Japan, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Cambodia, and Philippines. With particular interests in policy-making and disaster assessment and mitigation, the participants also exhibited keen interests on the Program and its information products in the open forum that followed.

Phil-LiDAR 1 hosts Bosconians

The Phil-LiDAR 1 Hazard Mapping of the Philippines Using LiDAR Program hosted a group of young individuals last February 24 to introduce its processes and the state-of-the-art technologies that back its undertakings. The Program's components gave the students and young leaders a tour of the office and an overview of the Program's workflow.

The Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation (DREAM) Program/ Phil-LiDAR 1. Hazard Mapping of the Philippines Using LiDAR 1 Program held its Year-end Assessment Workshop at the Cocoon Boutique Hotel, Quezon City last December 18, 2014. In attendance was 100 of the 133 personnel of the DREAM/Phil-LiDAR 1 Program.

DREAM personnel attend 3Di Flood modeling event of Project NOAH

Last 25 November 2015, DREAM representatives from the Flood Modelling Component led by Chief Science Research Specialist Christopher Uichanco participated in the event entitled 3Di "State of the Art" Flood Modelling in the Philippines - Fast, Accurate and Visual, organized by the Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (Project NOAH) - Disaster Risk Exposure and Assessment for Mitigation in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and Nelen and Schuurmans, Netherlands.

UPD Phil-LiDAR 1 hosts 1st Phil-LiDAR 1 and 2 National Conference

Around 205 participants from the Phil-LiDAR 1 and 2 projects were in attendance in the 1st Phil-LiDAR 1 and 2 National Conference held last November 18 to 19, 2014 at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, Davao City. Said event was organized by the University of the Philippines Diliman Phil-LiDAR 1 Program.

DREAM takes part in Yolanda Anniversary Exhibit of OPARR

To highlight the importance of disaster preparation and risk mitigation, the DREAM Program, together with Smarter Visayas, took part in the exhibit entitled "Multi-Stakeholders Policy Forum: "One Year After Yolanda and the Way Forward." The event was hosted by the Office of the Presidential Assistant on Rehabilitation and Recovery (OPARR)and held on November 11, 2014 in the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
