Phil-LiDAR Program holds DOST-Attached Agencies LiDAR Seminar

More than 100 Regional Directors (RDs) and Provincial Directors (PDs) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) attended the DOST-Attached Agencies LiDAR Seminar held last April 14, 2015 in the Audio-Visual Room (AVR) of the National Engineering Center (NEC) in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, in Quezon City. Information on the hazard-mapping and resource assessment functions and outputs of the Phil-LiDAR Program will help the regional and provincial offices to perform their roles in disaster risk reduction and management with a higher capacity using high-quality data.

Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Phil-LiDAR 1 Program Leader, opened the event with his opening remarks on the relevance and importance of LiDAR technology. This was followed by the presentation of Engr. John Louie Fabila on LiDAR technology and Phil-LiDAR 1 workflow processes. Mr. Gene Paul Quevedo, Chief Science Research Specialist, also presented the data request protocols for the Data Archiving and Distribution (DAD) Component.
In the afternoon, Dr. Ariel C. Blanco. Phil-LiDAR 2 Program Leader discussed the mandate, workflow, and outputs of the Phil-LiDAR 2 Program. The event ended with an Open Forum, wherein the DOST Regional and Provincial Directors were able to raise their concerns and queries to the Phil-LiDAR Program Chief Science Research Specialists (CSRS). Also in attendance were representatives of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), including Ms. Claire Reyes, Science Research Specialist of PCIEERD.
