VSO Volunteer in the DREAM Program recognized by the European Commission

On October 21, 2014, VSO Bahaginan Volunteer Arnoud Keizer was recognized by the European Commission for his efforts to improve the processes involved in the LiDAR digital mapping of the Philippines, as well as help in bringing it closer to the Filipino people. During his 10-month stay in the Philippines, he improved the project management system of the DREAM Program, and his OpenStreetMap workshops have reached the grassroots level to help communities prepare for floods and other related environmental disasters.
Arnoud began his volunteer activities in February 2014 lasting until November 2014, when he will go back to the the Netherlands where he is originally from.
According to Arnoud, he wanted to “help people abroad extend their skills in project management and flood risk reduction, to give something back to society.”
For him, one of the highlights of his volunteering work was “the enthusiastic response to management training and the willingness to change the organization.” He said that this really motivates him in his work.
